Many from the community of Idlewild, Mi., gather on the beach on Williams island for a group photo, Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Idlewild was a resort town for blacks in bad old days when hotels and restaurants denied them service. It had niteclubs with big-name acts like the 4 Tops, Louis Armstrong and George Kirby. When civil rights movement knocked down Jim Crow laws the town declined as blacks could travel more freely. The town is now going through a revival.
